Ernesto Neto @ Park Avenue Armory

Last week my good friend Steven invited me to the opening of the new Ernesto Neto large scale art installation at the Park Avenue Armory. I didn't even know there was an massive block long armory right on Park and 66th but there is!!!

The installation itself was overwhelming, not only was it a feast for the eyes, but also for the nose. Those big "ball like" sacks you see hanging down from the ceiling are filled with all sort of spices, everything from turmeric to lavender....

It truly was a playground for adults as there were ball pits, huge bean bag moon bounce rooms and tons of cavernous tunnels to explore through the skeletal like structure, go check it out!!

The exhibit will run from MAY 14th to JUNE 14th:

Hiking in Breakneck Ridge

Last weekend my friend Stuart invite a few of us on a hiking trip to Breakneck Ridge, about an hour away from NYC via metro north. What I thought was going to be a leisurely walk through the woods turned out to be one of the most intense physical expierences of my life, no joke!!

The first 45 minutes of the hike was up a 1000 ft 45 degree rocky terrain with steep drop offs and sweeping views. About half way up, I told my "expedition crew" that I had a morbid fear of heights, which I didn't mention since I did not expect to be cliff climbing!! We ended up making it to the peak and it was well worth it since I felt a feeling of accomplishment that you only feel when you conquer your fears! The rest of the hike was no picnic either (although we did have a lovely lunch on the top of a cliff), we covered about 12 miles in 5 hours. For more info, check out:

dreaming of fire island....

So if any of you haven't experienced Fire Island before then you are truly missing out! Fire Island is located in Long Island, NY about 2.5 hours outside of NYC. It's an amazing nature reserve where deer roam wild, white powder sand beaches, cars are not allowed and boardwalks lead you to some of the most interesting beach/tree houses I have ever seen. Here are some shots of a recent trip there where I helped a friend open up his beach house in the pines for season! The really macro shots are jelly fish I found on the beach!!
